Travelling Minors

Children up to 2 years of age do not have a seat on board, but must travel in the arms of an adult. They therefore benefit from a lower fare and a special baggage allowance for the free transport of their necessities (pram, baby bottles, nappies, etc.) up to a maximum of 5 kg. A child from 2 to 12 years old, although entitled to a reduced fare (approximately 67% of the adult fare) and a baggage allowance equal to that of an adult, is entitled to a seat entirely to himself.

Documents

All minors must be in possession of an individual document.

Please note that the minor's registration in the parent's passport was valid until 26/06/2012. As of this date, minors may only travel in Europe and abroad with an individual travel document. At the same time, parent's passports with entries for minor children remain valid for the holder alone until the document's natural expiry date.

Individual passports issued to minors prior to the entry into force of the new regulations (25 November 2009), which are valid for ten years, are also valid until their natural expiry date.

Minors are issued the new passport booklet with a microchip, but the legislation stipulates that only from the age of 12 are fingerprints and a digitised signature acquired.

Unaccompanied minors

A minor between 5 and 14 years of age (12 years for some airlines) travelling alone must be reported at the time of booking to the airline. An airport attendant will take care of him/her until boarding and will entrust him/her to the cabin attendant for the duration of the flight. The parent/guardian must remain at the airport until take-off.

A child, who does not qualify as an unaccompanied minor, must explicitly request such treatment at the time of booking.

We would like to remind you that minors departing on national flights accompanied by persons other than their parents are required to present the staff in charge of control with an authorisation signed by both parents and their identity documents. Minors departing on international flights are only required to present authorisation from the Police Headquarters.

Pregnant women

In the case of pregnancy, it is always advisable to inform the airline of your status when booking and request the necessary documentation, especially in the last four weeks or if you are in a special condition such as a high-risk pregnancy or twin pregnancy.
